Plain English Summary

StyleSpy does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All processing happens entirely on your device. We do not track you, we do not use analytics, and we do not share anything with third parties.

1. Who We Are

StyleSpy is a Chrome browser extension that inspects the colors and fonts used on any webpage. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles information while you use it.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

StyleSpy does not collect, transmit, store, or share any of the following:

  • Personal information of any kind
  • Browsing history or URLs you visit
  • The content of the pages you scan
  • Colors or fonts extracted from any website
  • Your IP address or location
  • Cookies or tracking identifiers
  • Any analytics or usage data

There are no remote servers, no databases, and no data pipelines associated with this extension.

3. How the Extension Works

When you click "Scan Page", StyleSpy reads the computed CSS styles of the active tab entirely within your browser. The extracted colors and fonts are displayed in the popup interface and optionally copied to your clipboard. This data never leaves your device.

If you use the Export JSON or Export CSS Variables feature, the data is written directly to your clipboard. No network requests are made during this process.

4. Permissions Explained

StyleSpy requests the following Chrome permissions. Here is exactly why each one is needed:

activeTab

Allows the extension to interact with the tab you are currently viewing, but only when you explicitly click the extension icon. No background tab access is possible.

scripting

Required to inject a small script into the active page so it can read computed CSS values from the live DOM. Without this, style extraction is not possible.

storage

Used only to optionally persist the last scan result locally within your browser between popup sessions. All stored data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

5. Third-Party Services

The extension popup loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) solely for rendering the extension's own user interface. This is a standard browser request and no personal data is attached to it beyond your IP address, which is handled under Google's own privacy policy.

The "Buy Me a Coffee" button, when clicked, opens buymeacoffee.com in a new browser tab. StyleSpy does not share any data with this service. Visiting that page is subject to Buy Me a Coffee's own privacy policy.

Font download links (Google Fonts, Adobe Fonts, Font Squirrel, DaFont) are standard hyperlinks. Clicking them opens the respective website in a new tab. StyleSpy does not transmit any data to these services.

6. Children's Privacy

StyleSpy does not collect any data from any users, including children. The extension is a developer and designer tool not directed at children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
